The Small Things

This time of year feels very big. Everything feels large. Stores are crowded, parking lots are full, lights are strung up and blinking all over the place, ads for clothes and food and random goodies are displayed everywhere. And, while it can all be very exciting and bright and busy, it can also in its own way make me miss the smaller things. When there is so much focus on big, bright and loud displays, it is the small things that actually help me to slow down and stay grounded.

So, in the pursuit of small things, I will share a few that I am taking in at the moment.

My feet solidly on the floor. I can feel the whole bottom of my feet laying gently yet firmly against the floor. I have taken my slippers off so my feet are in contact with the ground and with each moment I can feel the coolness of the floor, the firmness of the ground and the gentle weight of my feet.

My newly painted nails I did yesterday, which have little single polka dots on each nail. I look at them and I smile because each one is a small bit of happiness.

My breath which feels deep and content at the moment and is showing me that as I am paying attention to these small things I am calming down inside. For a brief moment, I am not getting lost in the noise and busyness and chaos all around me but instead experiencing myself fully.

A smile from my partner and a smile back to him.

The small things are what help me to come back to where I am physically. It can be easy to be pulled into the noise and movement that is around in abundance right now but the small things can bring us back to right here and to what really matters for each of us.

Wishing you a happy holiday season.

Thank you for being here,
